DC motors or direct current motors are electromechanical devices that convert electrical energy into mechanical motion. Unlike AC induction motors, DC motors operate with a direct current power supply. The basic structure of a DC motor consists of a stator (field winding) and a rotor (armature winding). When direct current is applied to the stator, it creates a magnetic field. The rotor, connected to a commutator and brushes, experiences a force due to the interaction with the magnetic field, causing it to rotate. DC motors are appreciated for their controllability as speed and torque can be easily adjusted by changing the applied voltage. This feature makes them suitable for applications where precise speed control is required, such as robotics, electric vehicles and small household appliances. In addition, DC motors are widely used in areas where constant speed or variable speed operation is required. Although not as common as AC induction motors, DC motors remain very important in certain industries and continue to contribute to the advancement of technological systems.
